abstract

background: gifted students have many personality traits that can improve them to experiences achievement. some factoers such as openness to experience and self-reference aid us to find relationship between these factors and others dimensions. methods: the relationship between personality traits, self-awareness, and self-actualization dimensions was assayed among 239 gifted students from shiraz high schools. the big five personality questionnaire (bfpq), self-consciousness scale (scs) and measure of actualization of potential (map) were used to gathering information. validity and reliability of these tools were acceptable.   results: the results presented a significant correlation between personality traits (extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness to experience and neuroticism), self-awareness dimensions (private self- awareness, public self-awareness, and social anxiety), of self-actualization dimensions (self-reference, openness to experience) and general self-actualization. conclusion: agreeableness and conscientiousness factors (personality traits) predicted self-actualization positively. however, neuroticism predicted negatively. also, private self-awareness predicted self-actualization positively.
